It depends on which sailing you take. Daytime crossings take around 6 to 6 hours 30 minutes. Overnight sailings take 8 to 10 hours from Plymouth depending on the date and tidal conditions. The overnight sailing is ideal for travelling while you sleep — you depart in the evening and wake up in Brittany.
How often do ferries run from Plymouth to Roscoff?
In peak summer (July and August), Brittany Ferries operates up to 8 sailings per week. In spring and autumn the service runs around 4 to 5 times per week. Foot passenger fares start from around £38 one-way. A car with 2 passengers starts from around £117. On overnight sailings you must also book either a cabin (from around £44) or a reserved seat (from around £10) on top of your fare — you cannot board an overnight sailing without one of these. Which ships operate the Plymouth to Roscoff route?
Two Brittany Ferries ships operate this route. The Armorique was designed and built specifically for the Plymouth–Roscoff crossing in 2009 and carries the majority of sailings. The Pont-Aven — Brittany Ferries’ flagship and the largest purpose-built cruise-ferry on the Channel — also sails this route, typically on the Friday daytime and Tuesday overnight sailings. Do I need a cabin on the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry?
On overnight sailings you are required to book either a cabin or a reserved seat — you cannot board without one. Cabins start from around £44 and give you a private en-suite room for the crossing. Reserved seats start from around £10 and give you a dedicated reclining seat in a shared lounge. For daytime crossings, neither is required — though you can book one if you want privacy or a rest. Can I take my dog on the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry?
Yes. Brittany Ferries accepts dogs, cats and ferrets on this route. Pets can travel in pet-friendly cabins or in onboard kennels, or remain in your vehicle. You’ll need a microchipped pet, a valid rabies vaccination, and an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by a UK vet no more than 10 days before travel.
