Welcome to our guide to travelling between the UK and France. This website is written and maintained by me, Tim and I have a long and first-hand experience of the Plymouth to Roscoff route and the wider ferry network across the Channel.

I was born and lived in Plymouth for many years, so the port, the ships and the crossing have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve travelled on the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry multiple times over the years — from quick trips to Brittany to longer summer holidays with family.

Alongside this route, I’ve also used every major ferry crossing between the UK and France, including Portsmouth, Dover and Newhaven services. That experience helps me give clear, practical comparisons and explain what it’s really like onboard each ship.

I’ve also travelled with friends, with my wife and with our three children from when they were, babies all the way into and through their teenage years so I know what I’m talking about when it comes to taking a ferry to France with kids.
